Francis Russell, the 7th Duke of Bedford. The statue, situated in Bedford Square, Tavistock, honours the man responsible for much of the towns present day appearance. It was the Russell family's money from the mining boom of the mid 1800s which paid for most of the town's distinctive buildings.
