'Rodgemonts' lies within an "island" of fields and woods bordered by Devon lanes. The comfortable and attractive accommodation in the Barn offers peace and complete privacy - come and go at will. We welcome you into our adjoining thatched cottage for deli
A cattle grid marks the entrance into the peaceful seclusion of ‘Rodgemonts’ “island” of fields and its own woodland. The drive, with wide views of the hills folding down to the Little Dart valley, leads to the house, which is a mile or so from Chulmleigh. The house is at least three hundred years old and of stone and cob construction under a thatched roof. Clear nights give inspiring star-filled skies.
Guest accommodation is provided in the cob, stone and thatched barn, which is close to, but separated from the house by a thatched cob wall against which fig, pear and apricot trees grow. The Barn offers real privacy for guests, enabling them to come and go as they please. It has been partially and sympathetically converted to provide two rooms with their en-suite shower rooms for guests. The double room, with arched windows overlooking orchard, garden and woodland has its own delightful small sitting-room for relaxation - television, radio/CD player and books all available. The unusual and attractive twin room has its own entrance from the balcony and provides similar relaxation opportunities. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in each room. The Barn is centrally heated.
We serve delicious breakfasts in the dining room of the house overlooking the garden and orchard, where an interesting variety of birds feed. Breakfasts always include home-produced apple juice, soft fruit, preserves and honey. All other ingredients are locally sourced.
Local pubs and restaurants offer a variety of good quality evening meals.
‘Rodgemonts’ is surrounded by a varied and beautiful environment to which we are fully committed – we are proud of the Silver Award gained from the Green Tourism Business Scheme. Locally, good walking and cycling is available and Exmoor, Dartmoor and the magnificent North Devon coast are easily accessible from ‘Rodgemonts’.
