Postbridge clapper bridge
Postbridge can be found on the B3212 between Moretonhampstead and Two Bridges. Located at the centre of Dartmoor National Park it is an excellent base camp from which to explore the awesome natural beauty of Dartmoor.
The Clapper Bridge in Postbridge is perhaps the best example of this type of bridge to be found on Dartmoor. There are 30 such bridges on Dartmoor all having been built in the 13th and 14th centuries and they are unique to the area. The bridge is clearly visible as you pass through the village and you cant help but admire the labour and workmanship that must have gone into hoisting the 4 8 ton granite slabs onto the granite piers that support them.
