Braunton Burrows is the largest sand dune system in England, and as such has a particularly important ecological status. The dunes are home to many rare plants and animals.
The Burrows have been designated and protected by a number of organisations and the list includes; UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, National Nature Reserve, Site of Special Scientific Interest, ANOB and more. However, Braunton Burrows is also a public beach with the most remote parts being used by naturists.
